Reno Air Show Plane Crash: Airplane Crashes Into Stands At National Championship

"Mass casualties" were reported at an air show after a plane slammed into the box seat area in front of a grandstand at the National Championship Air Races and Air Show in Reno on Friday, a spokesman for the show told CNN.
 
At least two people died and 54 people were transported from the scene with injuries, according to officials.
The pilot, identified as Jimmy Leeward, a real estate developer from Ocala, Florida, was likely killed in the crash, the show said in a statement. He was flying a P-51 Mustang. The event has been canceled and a memorial service will be held for the pilot Saturday afternoon, the show said.Those who knew Joshua DeBoer remembered him Friday as a smart, ambitious, faith-filled young man.

The 21-year-old Chicago Heights resident was killed Thursday evening when a plane

Super Junior to release repackaged album, “A-Cha”!

The show usually pits real warriors or historical figures against one another (think Vikings battling samurai or SaddamHussein going head to head against Pol Pot). But this week’s season-ending episode revolves around a supernatural smackdown.

The Deadliest Warrior research team pulled together vampire and zombie experts to advise as they created the tests for their undead combatants. Consultants included World War Z author Max Brooks, Zombie Research Society founder Matt Mogk and The Vampire Survival Guide scribe Scott Bowen.

Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr., won't be washing cars again — unless they're his own.

The soulful vocalist who once supported himself by washing cars at an auto dealership sang his way to victory on Wednesday on "America's Got Talent."

"Thank you so much for just believing in me," he said upon hearing his name announced at the end of the NBC talent competition.

(Reading her comments, it's remarkable that we remember Jackie in her youthfulness, while these other figures seem to be from a more distant time.)The wife of assassinated US president John F. Kennedy did not care for French leader Charles de Gaulle or India's Indira Gandhi, according to newly-released taped interviews.

The interviews with Jacqueline Kennedy, recorded months after the 1963 assassination of her husband and aired for the first time by ABC News, include her candid assessments of world leaders and her time in the White House.

"De Gaulle was my hero when I married Jack," she tells the historian Arthur Schlesinger, referring to her husband by his nickname, in a tape aired by ABC News on Tuesday.

But when she met the French leader in person during a May 1961 visit, shortly after Kennedy assumed office, she found de Gaulle to be "so full of spite" and disliked the French in general.

"I loathe the French... They are not very nice, they are all for themselves," she said.

Her criticism came despite the fact that she had studied at the Sorbonne at the age of 20 and could speak French well.

Miss Angola Leila Lopes declared the winner

 

Newly crowned Miss Universe Leila Lopes hopes her victory will allow her to assist her native Angola further escape its history of war and impoverishment and said she plans to focus on combatting HIV around the globe.Some of the contestants have complained to the local news media about the size of bikinis used in some photo shoots, with Miss Mexico Karin Ontiveros saying they were "very small."

Miss USA Alyssa Campanella, from California, failed to end a long losing spell for the U.S. in the competition. An American has not been named Miss Universe since Brook Lee won the title in 1997.

The pageant started as a local bathing suit revue in Long Beach, California, organized by a swimwear company.

Breaking News Blast rocks nuclear plant in France

 

A security perimeter has been set up because of the risk of leakage. The explosion hit the site at 11:45 local time.An explosion hit the Marcoule nuclear plant in southern France today, killing at least one person and injuring three others, the BBC reports. The site handles nuclear waste and recycles plutonium from nuclear

weapons into MOX fuel, but does not include any reactors. The explosion occurred near a furnace, but France's nuclear watchdog tells Reuters that no radioactive material has leaked out.Last March, a level 2 incident had already occurred in the same plant (on a scale up to 7). This incident was initially reported as "level 1" by Areva, but after reviewing the case, the Nuclear Safety Authority (ASN) decided to classify it as "level 2". The ASN asserted it was "the failure of several safety requirements of the installation."

But after an error-prone performance that was as baffling as it was gut-wrenching, it ended up similar to the 6-10 season of a year ago with the same old mistakes and same old heartbreak.

Andy Whitfield's Death: Hollywood Pays Tribute to Former 'Spartacus' Star

 Actor Andy Whitfield has died after losing his battle with cancer. He was 39.
The Spartacus: Blood And Sand star passed away at home in Sydney, Australia on Sunday (11Sep11) after succumbing to non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, according to his manager Sam Maydew.
His devastated wife Vashti paid tribute to the star, calling him a "beautiful young warrior" who died on a "sunny Sydney morning" in the "arms of his loving wife."
The British-born actor moved Down Under in 1999 and was a virtual unknown when he landed the lead in the gladiator TV drama series, which became a huge hit.


He was preparing to shoot a second series when he was struck down with the disease in 2010. He was replaced by Liam MCIntyre.
Whitfield died Sunday of non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. He was diagnosed with the disease 18 months ago while prepping for the second season the Starz series.
Starz, with Whitfield’s blessing, later replaced him in the title role with Liam McIntyre.
