Serena Williams takes aim on fourth U.S. Open title

Serena Williams celebrated after defeating top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki.
Shrugging off the effect of a bandaged right foot layered with adhesive, Serena Williams of the United States bounded into the U.S. Open women’s final with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, the world’s top ranked and top seeded player.Three-time champion Serena Williams stormed past world number one Carolie Wozniacki to set up a showdown with Samantha Stosur in what promises to be an emotional US Open women's final.More than two hours after their U.S. Open semifinal match was scheduled to begin, Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki finally got their chance to shine.

In the end, however, it was Williams who truly shone.

After a pair of men's semifinal matches ran late, the 28th-seeded Williams proved that the only woman who can beat her is she herself.

As gamely as she fought, the No. 1-seeded Wozniacki was simply overpowered by the the three-time U.S. Open champ. Seeded 28th due to an injury and illness that kept her from competing in last year’s championship, Serena Williams showed powerful ground strokes and serves, hitting 11 aces and 34 winners (to Wozniacki’s 5) in the 86-minute match.

Williams was watched from the players box by her older sister, Venus, who last won here in 2011, defeating her sister.
